Professor Siew Ng is Professor at the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Assistant Dean (Development) and Honorary Consultant Physician at the Prince of Wales Hospital. She is also Director of the Microbiota I-Center (MagIC) established under the Innovation and Technology Commission, HKSAR Government. In 2019, she co-founded a biotechnology start-up company, GenieBiome Limited.  As the non-executive Board of Directors and Scientific Advisor of the Company, Professor Ng steers the research and development of microbiome diagnostics and therapeutics.

Prof Ng received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from the University of London and Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) from Imperial College London. As a world-renowned clinician-scientist in gastrointestinal diseases and microbiome medicine, she has published over 300 papers in international journals, including Nature Genetics, Cell Host Microbes, Nature Communications and Lancet. She pioneered the development of innovative diagnostic approaches based on microbiome analysis for prediction of diseases including colorectal cancer, autism and metabolic syndrome. In 2017, she established Asia’s First Microbiota Transplantation & Research Center, and in 2018 she led “Frontiers in Fecal Microbiota Transplant” endorsed by the Asia-Pacific Association of Gastroenterology and Asia-Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy. To date, her center is the sole provider of FMT service to local health authority in Hong Kong. In 2020, her scientific discoveries in microbiome modulation to combat COVID-19 have been recognized locally and regionally.  In 2021, she Identified novel bacteria markers for early detection of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Her international network with over 10 top-ranking institutions has resulted in landmark publications and led to a paradigm shift in regional public health.   In 2021, Expertscape ranked her within the top 20 in Crohn’s disease in the world. As an inventor, she has filed over 50 patents across the nation, US, and Europe.

Her research work has won over 30 prestigious awards including Croucher Professor in Medical Science in 2022, the Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards, David Sachar Visiting Professorship, Sir Francis Avery Jones Award and Professorship and Croucher Senior Medical Research Fellowship. Her recent honours would be the Golden and Silver Medals in the 2022 Special Edition of International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, with inventions on specific fecal bacterial markers of ASD, level up FMT treatment, G-NiiB Immunity products and M3CRC™ colorectal cancer risk prediction test, and the Croucher Professorship. She was awarded Highly-cited Researchers by Clarivate in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
